CPSA Keeps Pressure on Public Entities Regarding Essential Worker Status

This week California Pool & Spa Association (CPSA) kept the pressure up on public health officials and the Governor’s office to clearly and deliberately state pool service and maintenance businesses are essential workers for purposes of the various state and local Shelter in Place orders.

Earlier CPSA sent a letter and followed up by speaking with personnel in the Governor’s office relative to this matter. The Governor’s staff assured us this topic was on their radar screen. In addition, we were able to recruit the California Special Districts Association and Mosquito and Vector Control Association of California to sign a letter setting forth specific language the associations wanted to see amended into the Governor’s Executive Order.

Also, CPSA emailed a letter to every public health officer in each of California’s 58 counties requesting their local Shelter in Place orders recognize pool service and maintenance personnel as essential workers. Several counties have already responded positively to the email.

Lastly, this week Governor Gavin Newsom confirmed again his state order allows for the construction industry to continue to work as essential workers; however, some California cities and counties have taken their own, and sometimes stricter, stances on what type of construction work is permissible in their jurisdictions during the pandemic.
